      TENT CITY PLANNED NAGAR PARKAR

NAGARPARKAR: Following the monsoon rains, the landscape of the Thar Desert has undergone a change. The sight of verdure in an area that once looked like a barren desert is a great attraction for tourists. However, prospects of tourism in the area remain dismal due to the lack of accommodation arrangements.
Although there are a few places in Thar where accommodation or rooms can be rented out, the Sindh government is way behind in providing facilities to the visitors in Nagarparkar, a bordering town with India.

A large number of tourists visit attractions in Tharparkar district such as the Karoonjhar Mountains, Jain temple, Bhodesar Mosque, Gaddi Bhit of Mithi along with Marui Wells and Qasbo to enjoy the idyllic view following the seasonal rains but they have to face lack of accommodation and non-availability of tourist guides.

Power plant consturction thar residents want share development:

Due to these issues, visitors from Karachi, Hyderabad and other parts of the province to Nagarparkar, Islamkot and Mithi, are forced to return home the same day. The distance between Nagarparkar and Karachi is around 445 kilometres (km), whereas it is 340 km between Nagarparkar and Hyderabad.

“Thousands of people come to this paradise, but they all have to make their own arrangements, especially in Nagarparkar,” said Yousuf Faqir, a folk singer who entertains tourists with his melodious voice.

The Karoonjhar Mountains in Nagarparkar, which are located on the northern edge of Rann of Kutch, have no resting place to offer to visitors who could spend a few moments of peace in the area. The visitors who visit the Sardhro Temple built on the foothill of a mountain experience the same problem. “The flowing streams and serenity of mountains in the desert have made our visit to Thar worthwhile but the government must accept its responsibility for the missing facilities at the tourist attraction,” Mukesh Kumar, a visitor from Umerkot, told The Express Tribune.

     ROOPLO KOHLI RESORT

KARACHI: The Sindh culture and tourism ministry has opened the Rooplo Kolhi Resort at Nagarparkar, which it described as the first of its many projects aimed at promoting tourism in the province, officials said on Sunday.

“This resort has been built at the foothills of the Karoonjhar Mountains in Thar Desert, which will serve a great deal to tourism, especially people from other parts of Sindh and the rest of the country,” said a senior official in the ministry while speaking to Dawn.

The resort has been named after the famous Sindhi freedom fighter who fought against the British in the Karoonjhar Mountains and was later hanged by the colonial regime in 1858 with his companions.

This resort is a small tribute to him,” said the official. He added that there were 26 rooms, including 10 luxury ones, on offer for tourists who could reside there on modest rents while visiting Nagarparkar generally called the ‘Land of pheasants and temples’.

The resort is surrounded by agriculture fields, which turned lush green during wet monsoons while peacocks would be routinely seen all across the area.
The officials said there were several sites, which would attract tourists in this part of Thar district, which borders with India.
The ancient Bhodesar Mosque is located 1.5 kilometres from the resort.

The same locality houses the Bhodesar Pond, where a small dam had been constructed to provide water to inhabitants who normally get exposed to worst droughts.
Not so far away is the famous Jain Temple — one of the dozens of such temples.

Bhodesar is the town which was the region’s capital during the Sodha rule. The remains of three other temples are still visible. The oldest temple was built in the classical style in around the ninth century.

 MARVI WELL , IN NAGRPARKAR

The site of well of marvi id about 30 kilometers away from nangar town in north and 10 km from virawah village umar marvi is sindhi flok love story. It is also mentioned in sheh -jho-Risalo.This is another love story which has semi distoried back ground. It is story of indentification of paritotism, self determination marvi was sindhi heroine for her chastiy, and simplicty.Marvi  found her idealin khet, a coudin who lived in aneighboring village.he was handsome and brave and he was deeply in love with marvi she was beautiful and brave village girl.she was engeged to her cousin named khet one day, whike filling water in her pots from as well which is lnown as mariv well, (marvi-jho khooh)for her goats  she was seen by prince wmar soomro  the well still exists near village bhalvs ik Tharparkar.

Many people visit the place throughout the year, but especially during the monsoon season. There is a huge turnout in August. A large number of tourists visit from far and wide. [Marvi’s] devotees come here to pay homage to the honourable and resilient girl that she was,” says Rajper. “The well is blessed. I have heard tales of people coming and wishing upon the well. People also drink its water believing it will cure them of their illnesses.”

Tharparkar district is the largest desert area of Pakistan, known for brutal droughts that have claimed hundreds of lives in recent years, particularly of the vulnerably young and old. But Rajper insists even when every well in the area runs dry, Marvi’s well doesn’t. “During the cold winters, the water from Marvi’s well is steaming hot. In the summer, the opposite happens and the water turns cold. Such are the mysteries of this well,” he claims.

Rajper is clearly enamoured by Marvi’s legend. “She was a pure, untouched woman. But after Umar dropped her back to this well, she was eyed with suspicion. So much so, that her fiancΓ© Khet told her, ‘You are like a watermelon whose pulp has been eaten and tasted, and it can’t do away the thirst’. Hearing this, it is said she was heartbroken,” narrates Rajper.

And to tug at the visitors’ heartstrings are four musicians seated next to the well. Faqir Ali Dino, Faqir Abdullah, alghoza player Faqir Khashkeli and dhol player Juma Khan belt out kalaams of Shah Abdul Bhittai much to the delight of onlookers.
